The Comp-XM Competency Exam will assist you in determining the degree of knowledge held by your participants. Comp-XM is available in two flavors: Basix, which is based on the edition scenario (Capstone or Foundation), and Concepts, which is based on a scenario that is close but not identical. There is an additional charge for Comp-XM.

Plug-Ins

Plug-ins allow you to include management choices in your simulation scenario. For example, the Ethics plug-in requires participants to wrestle with challenges that will have both short- and long-term implications for the company’s profit margins in the future. Plug-ins are subject to an additional charge.

OPTIMIZATION AND CUSTOMIZATION OF SIMULATION DATA

Scenarios Instructors may choose from three different “scenarios.” The annual growth rates and prime financing interest rates differ in each of the following:

A typical Capstone/Foundation situation is the tried and tested Capstone/Foundation scenario. A steady rate of growth is seen in market sectors, and the prime interest rate begins at 7.5 percent and grows by 0.5 percent every year after that.

Growth Scenario (Optimal Case):

Some professors will be more comfortable expressing this unpredictability that exists in the actual world. At the conclusion of eight years, the segment demand grows by the same amount as in the Standard scenario, but the annual growth rates fluctuate from year to year within a range of 4.0 percent .

The Capstone Courier or The Foundation FastTrack, an industry periodical, publishes growth rates for each segment for the future year. Participants have no way of knowing if growth rates will rise or fall in the next year.

Recession Scenario

This scenario begins similarly to the Growth scenario, but by Year 5 the simulation economy has collapsed, and the average industry growth rate has plummeted to a shocking -7.0 percent. The economy remains stationary in Year 6, with an average annual growth rate of 0.0 percent.

In Year 7, the industry starts to recover, and in Year 8, life returns to normal with growth rates comparable to those seen before to the crisis. During a recession, the prime rate is reduced to 4.0 percent, after which it returns to normal levels after the economy recovers from the recession.

Participants are not informed of their scenario type or specifics such as the year in which they should anticipate a growth variance or a recession in the Capsim learning materials. Growth rates and interest rates for the future year are only known to participants since they were published in the Courier/FastTrack newspaper the previous year.

The announced rates are valid for the whole year; however, there may be surprises the following year when the new rates are released. Example: When the recession begins, participants are aware of the amount each section will decline, but they are unaware of the time frame in which they will recover.

It is up to each individual educator to determine how much uncertainty their students can bear in a given situation. For upperclassmen, graduates, and corporate participants, it may be suitable to throw a whole surprise party. For underclassmen, it may be necessary to disclose “warning indications of a recession” two years in advance in order to prevent participants from overspending on available space and resources.

Parameter Setup

The Standard, Growth, and Recession scenarios may all be changed by changing the parameters. Throughout each course (and a course may have many sectors), each industry will be exposed to the same tailored environment. Customization possibilities enable for the design of snowflake simulations that are fundamentally the same from course to course, but that appear completely different. Customization options may provide a distinctive spin to a lesson while yet being recognizable to the educator.. Previous participants’ capacity to “guide” current participants is likewise diminished as a result of customization.
