RUNNING FOOTRACES IN CAPSIM

All participating teams fight against a shared set of opponents in Capstone and Foundation simulations, which may be performed as Footraces as part of their training. Footrace results are simple to track, and instructors may examine a broad variety of statistics and outcomes, including profit, cumulative profit, return on assets, return on equity, return on assets, stock price, asset turnover, market capitalization, and market share, among others. A total of 900 students participated in our greatest Footrace to date, which took place in a single class taught by a single professor with assistance from a small number of teaching assistants. Footrace organizations may be operated by groups of people or by individuals. Participants may work at their own pace while using the Self-Paced mode, which is useful in situations such as independent study or make-up work settings.

FOOTRACES ARE BEING LAUNCHED

Tournament simulations and footrace simulations are initiated in the same manner as they are for Tournament simulations. If you want to set up your own Capstone or Foundation Footrace after the course has been released, go to the Creating Industries area and pick I’ll Set Up My Own Capstone or Foundation Footrace. Participants will be in charge of one of up to six businesses.

Andrews is the default firm, although teachers may encourage participants to manage one of the other companies if they so want. Instructors who want to modify the setting from one semester to the next may find this to be advantageous. Instructors might also put a halt to the operations of computer corporations. This may also have an impact on the ecosystem, for example, if Digby is dormant during the autumn semester and Erie is inactive during the spring semester.

COMPANIES IN THE FORMATION PROCESS

The suffix _000 will be added to the end of all numbers in the footrace business. During the formation process of each member firm, a sub-industry will be established and issued a unique suffix, such as 123. Create a Holding Company on the internet and nominate one member from each team to serve as the team’s Founder. Founders must first register with the Footrace and then log into the Capital Simulation website.

Industry from the drop-down menu, click Dashboard, select Join or Form a Company from the drop-down menu, enter the name of the team holding company, and then submit their registration.

The remaining team members may now join or form a business by selecting Join or Form a Company from the drop-down menu. Instructors may also manage business assignments from the Manage Industry section of the course management system.

In a Footrace, why is it necessary for teams to identify their sponsor?

Each team manages the same participating firm, which is often Andrews, in a Footrace competition. The computer is in charge of the competition that is left. As a result, the teacher need a method of distinguishing between one squad and another. While participants are free to come up with their own business names, teachers may tell them to submit specified company names, such as “1001,” “1002,” and so on, for example. When dealing with big groups of students, this may be really beneficial. Additionally, participants have the option of preventing others from joining the firm by using the Close Registration checkbox.

STUDENTS IN THE INDUSTRY ARE LISTED BY COMPANY ON THE INDUSTRY ROSTER

This section enables teachers to cancel registration for a firm or, if it has already been closed, to reopen it. Instructors may also make changes to the name of a firm.

STUDENTS ARE ORGANIZED ALPHABETICALLY

To return a participant from his or her sub-industry back to the Footrace root (that is, back to the _000 suffix), choose that person’s name from the alphabetical list. After that, the participant may decide to join or create a corporation.

ROUNDS ON A SCHEDULED BASIS AND SELF-PACED

Instructors have the option of allowing players to move at their own speed or scheduling rounds in a manner similar to Tournament simulations, which includes the Auto Process feature. If you want to arrange rounds, follow these steps: • Go to Manage Industry and select the Schedule Rounds link; • When the new page appears, click the Schedule Rounds button in the top right corner; • Select both the Practice and Competition choices; If a firm violates a deadline for Auto Process, its round will be required to be manually processed instead (all others will proceed).

OPTIONAL SELF-PACED OPTION

Participants will be able to continue at their own speed if the following conditions are met:

• Select the Schedule Rounds link under Manage Industry from the drop-down menu.
• To begin, click the Self-Paced Option button in the center right corner of the page when it first appears.
• To enable Self-Paced progress, choose a round to which you want your players to advance on their own, for example, Round 4 or Round 8.
• Then click the Turn On button. To turn off the Self-Paced progress option, follow the steps above and click the Turn Off button.

When participants are ready to go, they log onto the website and choose their simulation from the drop-down menu. Participants will be able to progress to the next round by clicking on the link that will appear on the Dashboard, under the Task List (at least one set of decisions must be uploaded before this link will display). Participants may begin working on their next round as soon as they have advanced to the following round. When the course is configured to be self-paced, teachers have the option of enabling participants to go back and retry their prior round if they so want.

When this option is enabled, participants will receive a link on their Dashboard that will allow them to restart their session and attempt it once again. This functionality may be particularly beneficial during the practice time, when participants are learning how to operate the simulation. Because every team member has the potential to progress the simulation, it is critical that the team works together to achieve success. Teams may want to consider selecting a processing point person, who will check with the whole team before moving on to the next round of play.

To manually process all or a selection of firms, go to Manage Industry | Process Round and choose “Manual Processing.”

COMPANIES IN THE PROCESSING INDUSTRY THAT MISS DEADLINES

The firm will be manually processed using Option 2 under Process Round if it fails to submit a set of choices before the round deadline. Select the checkbox next to the firm that is being impacted and then click Process Selected Companies to proceed.

FOOTRACES ARE BEING RESTARTED

In order for the Competition Rounds to resume after the final Footrace Practice Round has concluded, teachers must restart the simulation. Select Manage Industry | Restart Industries from the drop-down menu. Instructors may choose which Footrace firms they want to revive or they can restart all of them.

A restart for all organizations may be scheduled by instructors as well. However, instructors and participants will still have access to the online versions of the Capstone Courier or Foundation FastTrack and Annual Reports when the system is restarted. The Analyst Report, Balanced Scorecard, and Decision Audits will be destroyed upon restart.

MODULES FOR ADVANCED FOOTRACE ARE CHANGING

Computer teams’ difficulty levels may be changed or removed during scheduled restarts, which allows teachers to modify the start rounds for Advanced Modules and/or the difficulty level of computer teams.
