5 PAGE PAPER minimum – it can be longer (3 pages of written text) – total 5 pages including Page 1 Abstract and Page 5 Sources (100 Points)

Why are we doing this?  This assignment addresses the Assessment of the Core Objective of Written Communication.  Evaluation of Written Communication is a requirement of the Discipline Curriculum Committee.  Each discipline is required to evaluate certain Core Objectives in line with the Student Learning Outcomes assigned to each course by the Discipline Curriculum Committee.  Results of these assignments impact a student’s grade in their course.  The results of these assignments are also gathered and interpreted across each discipline to evaluate students.

Paper:   We will go over the paper requirements and due date in the second week of class.  Note that late papers will have 10 points deducted each day that they are late.  YOU MUST FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES FOR THE PAPER – NO EXCEPTIONS.  This is a Government Department writing assignment and so directions must be followed.

Where to find the Paper Requirements:  We will have in class training on how to pick a topic, how to research it, how to complete the research portion of the assignment, and how to get complete the paper.  Go to El Centro’s Library Page, Library Guide to Research and Help Guides, pull “Government” from the drop down menu, click on “Assignments / Tutorials / Research and Writing” and then pull down to our class.  A tool kit is there with the assignment.
